April is National Financial Literacy Month
April is National Financial Literacy Month, and according to Texas Credit Union Foundation executive director Courtney Nickles, time to take an honest evaluation of your financial situation.
Not sure where to begin? Consider these financial spring cleaning tips:
Financial Spring Cleaning Tips:
- Organizing your personal and financial records is much easier when the clutter is gone. Put all your receipts together, print out your checking and credit card statements, and use them to assess your financial situation.
- Perform a credit report checkup. A good credit report is a valuable asset. Get your free credit reports every 12 months from each of the three national consumer credit reporting companies. Order the reports from the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) by visiting www.AnnualCreditReport.com or calling (877) 322-8228. Check your reports carefully for accuracy and report any mistakes.
- Reviewing your credit reports also is a great way to get a snapshot of your financial obligations. If you find mistakes in your report, contact the credit-reporting agency immediately. Rather than dispute the mistake via an online form, send a letter that includes your complete name and address, a description of each item you dispute, an explanation of why you dispute it and a request for deletion or correction of the information.
- Wipe out debt. Start by focusing on debts with the highest interest rate first and once that account is paid off, apply that amount to the debt with the next highest interest rate.
70th Annual Meeting
Official minutes:
The 70th Annual Meeting of Austin Telco Federal Credit Union was held on March 24, 2011, at The North Austin Event Center in Austin, Texas. Chairman, R.B. Smith, called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. Linda Nichols, an Austin Telco member, served as the parliamentarian for the meeting. A quorum was determined to be present. After a member motion and a second, it was voted unanimously to dispense with the reading of the 2010 minutes. In the same motion the minutes were also approved. Reports were made by the Chairman of the Board, the Treasurer, the Supervisory Committee Chairman, and the President/CEO. No old or new business was presented at the meeting. The election of directors was conducted by acclamation and Charlene Spillmann and Larry Lantrip were elected to three-year terms. $5,500 in cash door prizes (including $500 in the children’s drawing) was awarded.
