Austin Telco has seen a rise in fraudulent and denied transactions due to members not properly utilizing their EMV cards at chip activated terminals. When you insert your chip card, it generates a one-time use code that is virtually impossible to counterfeit and helps reduce in-store fraud. If your EMV chip card is swiped or not inserted correctly, the transaction could be denied at a chip-activated terminal.
Always insert your EMV chip card unless the merchant does not have a chip activated terminal. If the merchant directs you to swipe on a chip activated terminal, this is considered a fallback transaction and may be rejected.
