Same-Day ACH NACHA Rule

Phase Two Effective Friday, September 15, 2017

Beginning Friday, September 15, the National Clearing House Association (NACHA) will be implenting Same-Day ACH for electronic debit transactions. The rule will enable the option for same-day ACH payments through a new ACH Network functionality. You may begin to see ACH/Electronic transactions posting to your account sooner. It will even mean seeing ACH transactions posting throughout the day. International transactions and transactions above $25,000 will not be eligible for same-day ACH.

The new NACHA operating rules require mandatory participation in Same-Day ACH processing. In accordance with these rules, Austin Telco FCU must accept additional ACH files each day and post any Same-Day ACH items to our members accounts.

This will be phase two out of three of the Same-Day ACH Rule which started rolling out on September 23, 2016. Once phase two is live, both credit and debit entries will be affected by the Same-Day ACH Rule.

  • September 23, 2016: Only Credit entries will be affected.
  • September 15, 2017: Credit and Debit entries will be affected.
  • March 16, 2018: Credit and Debit entries available at 5:00PM RDFI local time.

What does this mean?

This means that Same-Day ACH may cause some bill payments to debit your account much faster. You will need to verify with your merchant at the time an authorization is made as to whether or not the payment will be processed the same day. To avoid fees or overdrawn activity in your account, we recommend every accountholder ensures funds are available in their account when initiating any type of electronic payment.
